I guess the question in front of me now is: is Jackalope any good? Right now, they are looking at average from the wrong side. They've had more bad beers than they've had great, and they haven't ventured outside the average range. While I want every brewer to succeed, not all of them are going to. And not all of them are going to be worth my time and money. Unfortunately, these guys are getting to the point of no return.
There is a pale green that's been added to the only slightly hazy pale yellow beer. The head satisfactorily erupts from the depths of the beverage while being poured, and it settles to an uneven yet complete pillow across the top of the beer with a strong ring on the sides and very slight lacing. The aroma is slightly astringent with strong wheat and quite noticeable lime. I may detect a hint of tart, but it doesn't smell like a sour. Hopefully, it isn't.First sip isn't sour, but it's not good. The lime is mixing with the wheat in a strange way, and the wheat seems to be mixing with a cracker malt that takes away the best of either one. The hint of tart that I smelled is actually more overt, but it isn't quite fully into sour. Nevertheless, this is not the kind of sip I'm looking for. If I didn't know that they had not used lactose sugars, I would've suspected that they tried to smooth it out with those. I don't know what they used, but it isn't working.
Tip-in is quite tart lime and wheat with mild carbonation tingle. The middle, strangely, doesn't seem to change anything other than adding a bit of sweetness from the graham cracker crust. The finish goes the full way into sour, and I think I'm going to pour out the rest of this beer.
Bottom Line: Unwanted and unloved.
