Seems like Black Abbey is trying to get out ahead of any negative reviews by defining the categorization of this beverage. Look, it takes chutzpah to tell me how good the beverage is (unless you're an Arrogant Bastards) before I even try it, but you have been a fairly reliable beverage producer so far, so let's see if what is in the can can back up what you put ON the can.
The orange-turning copper beer produces quite a bit of head that leaves very little lacing as it descends into an incomplete cap consisted of patchy clumps of mixed-sized bubbles. The aroma is sweet orange, pineapple, and cherry. I expected to smell vanilla, based on its prominence on the label, but I don't smell it.First sip is a strange mixture of pineapple, cherries, and what I would swear is coconut. All of it is glazed with a light vanilla and a deep sweetness that turns ever so slightly bitter by the end of the flavors. It's... not great. It should be a sweet mixture of complimenting flavors, but it comes across like a bit of a mess.
Tip-in is sweet cherries, curious yeast, and pineapple. The middle is thick and smooth with the unexpected crust malt rising up to fill the void while the pineapple adds texture to vanilla. The finish is a descent of bitterness and the confusing sip comes right back to unpleasantness.
Bottom Line: There is a spark of something, but it's only a spark.
