The startlingly long name on this beer is actually No-La Urban South Brewery Snowball Juice Hazy Juicy IPA Strawberry Shortcake. This is a clear indication of either the lack of a proper marketing department or one that has too many meetings. At some point, you just need to pick a name and run with it rather than continue to add things. Let the beer stand on its own.
First sip somewhat follows the nose, but the overall sensation of the beer is confusing. There is an impending bitterness that never comes forth, but the sweetness trails off very quickly. The result is a somewhat dry finish to a sweet beverage with strawberry seemingly crammed in where the hops should be blossoming. A crusty malt, however, is a solid through line that manages to keep everything in shape. Let's swig it!
Tip-in is strawberry sweetness and lactose adding a creaminess. The middle does not disappoint with the creaminess and strawberries being buoyed by the cracker crust and sweetness as carbonation tingles the top of the mouth. The finish has the sudden cessation of sweetness as a gentle bitterness arrives on the scene and the lactose hangs on for the trail off.
Bottom Line: An interesting and oddball dessert beer that is worth a try.
