How many times have I grabbed something off the shelf only to realize it is something completely different when I got home? To their credit, this beer clearly labeled as a relatively low calorie beer (120 calories is generally low for an IPA). I just didn't see it. When looking for the ABV, I certainly made the connection - 4.0% ABV is way low for an IPA.
The hazy, dull yellow beer sprouts a head that is not long for this world and leaves only the very ghost of lacing as it tumbles back into the beverage. The aroma is conspicuous dank above mingled juices of various, indiscernible types. As long as they don't try to cover up what the beer is lacking is solidity, this could make for a good beer.First sip dispels that notion. It is watery at its core, and dank and fruits hit at the end with carbonation and acidic zeal that belies the actual intent of the beer. Instead of enjoying what it has, I am left with the idea that it is missing something significant, and there is a flavor display jumping up and down telling me not to look at the man behind the curtain.
Tip-in is water base with dank residue while pomegranate and grapefruit dipping their toes in. The middle sprouts carbonation needles as a sweetness that had started quickly abates to leave room for water and bitterness. The finish is just more bitterness with the carbonation eventually dying down enough for a nice enough fruit flavor on the lips.
Bottom Line: I scoff at this attempt.
