I've had a run of these Oskar Blues beers of late. I guess I was just at the section of the aisle where this particular brewery had a bunch of beers. It seems to have turned out fairly well for me, so I'm not upset about it. Since purchasing this, I have spotted this particular beer on at least two websites declaring it one of the better beers available. Mind you, I don't seek out other beer reviews, so it should be taken as odd that this has popped up in my normal browsing and purchasing.
First sip is amazing. I have sometimes spoken of the idea that I compare a beer to its perfect analog. That there is some kind of measurement that a beer can be put up against that represents what that particular style of beer should be. This is not an IPA. This is not a regular ale. Goodness knows this isn't any kind of lager. This is thirst quenching, filled with flavor, bitter, and vibrant - a pale ale. I am very much enjoying this beer at just the sip. Let's see if the gulp improves things.
Tip-in is crust-free bread malt with orange and lemon lightly spritzed across the top. The middle becomes sweet at the top with bitter at the bottom in the carbonation sizzle in between while the bread malt enjoys the orange, lemon, grapefruit, and it is joined by a hint of honey. The finish is a downturn of bitterness as the malt hose gets shut off and the fruits turn to rind.
Bottom Line: This is a proper beer.
