I think of the average amber beer is being fairly watery to begin with. This particular beer is one of the nonalcoholic variety, so it may slide in well as an amber. I'm not really expecting most amber beers to be particularly vociferant with their flavor profile, so something more placid like an amber may absolutely gel well with the idea of a beer that doesn't have alcohol in it. This is Brooklyn brewing, and they know what they're doing. I expect this is going to be a hit.
The beer is pale, but it's legit - it looks just like any other beer might, if it were an amber beer that was not amber in color and instead was more of a clear, pale yellow-gold. It isn't flat, but the bubbles aren't exactly running away, and there is absolutely no lacing. Points of nucleation keep the uneven layer of small bubbles going, and the aroma of sweet honey lined with citrus is strong with this one. They don't want this to be tasteless like a lesser NA beer.
First sip is honey sweet with a pizza dough crustiness and gentle citrus. I know I said they were infusing it with flavor to stand out, but it's really kind of watery overall. It doesn't taste like a beer. It tastes like carbonated honey water that has had a squirt of citrus and is being served in a pizza joint, so the minute particles of crust have managed to float into the beverage.
Tip-in is honey and that pizza dough with gentle carbonation tickle. The middle expresses heightened carbonation with a little citrus coming in, but the center is all watery. The finish is a little bitter with an herb or two before the honey trail off.
Bottom Line: None of these NA beers know what they're doing yet..
