Buy local. Drink local. Hell, drink inside your house. That's why they put beer in cans! Mayday is, I think, still the closest local brewery, but I could be wrong. There are a bunch of little ones that I've tried out in the past few years, and I don't actually know all of their locations. Either way, I likely have better access to Mayday beers than you do.
The copper beer has just about a perfect amount of head that settles to a peninsula of tiny bubbles with a ring of protection along the edges. There's no lacing to be had, but this isn't an IPA, and I accept this fact with relative indifference. The aroma is very light, but it seems like a caramel malt over floral hops. I'm really sticking my nose down into the glass to get a whiff.
First sip is caramel malt with scorched nuts that ends on a very dry, hollow note. If there are hops in there, they are slight and floral, but they bring bitterness for the finish that is unwarranted by their lack of taste. I'm okay with bitterness in general (unlike sourness) but there should be a complimenting flavor that goes with it.
Tip-in is sweet caramel malt with the nuts full of flavor without any of the charring I detected in the sip - carbonation is sitting still. The middle expresses a sudden carbonation surge with a wood and nut core complimented by very light flowers and pine mixed in. The finish is nutty and dry, and I'm digging it.
Bottom Line: Don't sip. Do enjoy.
