I only listed Jackalope as the producer of this beer because the names are in an almost indecipherable font at the top of the label, and the Jackalope URL is prominently displayed on the side of the can. There are two other breweries listed on the can, and I've never heard of either one of them: BSG and Lallemand. I don't have any beers from them, I would be surprised if I see their names again, and I'm going to omit them from this particular review.
First sip is a more subdued affair than most IPAs start off as. The hops come on strong at the tail end, but the bread malt and grains at the beginning really give the impression of a different style of beer. By the end, though, tangerines, grapefruit, lemons, and bitterness tell the tale of an IPA lurking at the center of this beer. It's an odd sip, but it's not particularly off-putting.
Tip-in is light carbonation tingle with tropical fruits at the ready and the bread malt waiting in the distance. The middle sails into a bitter mix of grapefruit, mango, apricot, and lemons with the malt absolutely not doing what it's supposed to do. The bitter finish is a sizzle of carbonation before fruit rinds get tossed into a bitter soup for the trail off.
Bottom Line: Pangaea broke up, and maybe these brewers should too.
