Skilled in the art of dessert beers, Decadent is often fantastical in some of their labeling. In this particular case, it appears to be a quite entertaining set of novelty teeth chasing after a toaster pastry that has been morphed together with with the monopoly guy. Say what you will about some of their beers, these guys are having fun, and I will not begrudge them a good time. Let's hope their beer brings one.
First sip reminds me why I like these guys for their dessert beers. The fact is, the malt is conclusively conveying the essence of beer while the strawberry and light spices give the impression of a fantastical confectionery. The sip is heavy, but it's not like a toasted Porter or the like. Instead, the heaviness comes from the sweet, thick malt that is laden with yeast while at the same time managing to bring forth a certain essence of crust.
Tip-in is sweet strawberry preserves with a flaky crust of malt under it. The middle sends carbonation burning to the back of the tongue while the strawberries roll in spices and sweetness and a tartness lingers around the whole mouth. The finish is a sudden wave of bitterness before the strawberry-soaked crust is joined by a light yeast for tart and musty trail off.
Bottom Line: It's certainly a unique beer, but it won't be a regular go-to.
