The beer is lighter in color than the Arrogant Bastard that it's based on. It's caramel with a head that leans towards khaki. Lacing? Not really. I mean, there are a few bubbles struggling to hang on after the rather large wellspring of foam came up during the pour, but they aren't clingy. I didn't expect a lot of head from a beer with a harder alcohol added; the bourbon barrel beers almost never have a head.
First sip is rough. I probably had Jägermeister when I was younger and have since forgotten, but if this is what it tasted like, I probably made the right call by not ordering it a bunch since then. The spices added to the beer might not be helping matters out, as they are prodigious and distracting when trying to taste the excellent beer upon which this brew is based.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation burn with spices, a caramel malt, and an almost licorice blended into a pine hops. The middle is where the beer somewhat mellows (but it's still very strident) with the caramel malt lifting the licorice and spices high before the impending finish is felt more than tasted. The finish is spices and herbs on top of the licorice before the whole mouth dries out very quickly.
Bottom Line: I kind of feel they missed the mark with this one.
