That is a very copper colored beer. It foams up quite a bit as it's going into the very tall glass, but the foam dies down soon enough that I can top the sucker off and take my picture. The off-white head is mostly tiny little bubbles, but we've got a few medium and big ones shoved in there to make things interesting. Lacing is happening, and I can only assume that means that I'm going to be getting some hops out of this. That's great, as I do enjoy my hops.
First sip does, indeed, remind me of a barley wine. It's syrupy smooth, and it has honey, plums, booze, bananas, yeast, and it's all racing to the corners of the mouth before the beverage is gone, but then it leaves lingering tastes for some time afterward. Particularly, the banana seems to stand out to me. The sip isn't bad, so I might be inclined to just continue sipping if it weren't for the fact that I'm doing this review. So, on to the gulp.
Tip-in is banana, honey, and spices on top of no discernible carbonation and a syrup smoothness flowing underneath. The middle continues with the smoothness, but the booze shoves itself in line with all of the other flavors while adding the wheat grains, herbs, plums, and a more pronounced yeast. The finish turns a bit tart, burgeoning on sour, as the bananas rise up with the honey and a smidge of caramel before the yeast and bananas trail off.
Bottom Line: I'm going to go back to sipping it, and I think I'll enjoy it well enough.
