No, I didn't realize this was a sour when I bought it. Yes, it is clearly labeled. Honestly, I just saw the
Trimtab logo and figured I would give whatever they had a try. Now that I'm looking at this beer, I know it's not going to go well. I'm sorry, but I just don't like sour beers, but I paid good money for this beer, and I'm going to follow-up with an actual review. I mean, it says it has vanilla, lactose, and Loral hops, so it has something going for it.

The curiously red beer is getting all that color from the boysenberries, I'm sure. Ever had a boysenberry? I think I did when I was much younger, but I don't remember much about it. The head is pretty respectable for a fruit beer (I know berries aren't technically fruits) and the aroma is very berry-centric. I could probably tell you by the aroma that this was a beer, but I couldn't even tell you what smell makes me think that.
First sip is not as sour as I had feared, but it's not great, either. The hops and malt are very watery, and the berries are just kind of there. Carbonation probably contributes the most to the sip, but there is that lingering sour funk at the end that I don't like at all. Maybe a gulp will find the character that is lacking.
Tip-in is berries with an agave sweetness combined with relaxed hops on top of a gentle carbonation caress. The middle spreads into a more aggressive berry skin and a floral and citrus hop while the carbonation adds to the uneven balance. The finish is much more sour than it was in the sip, and the funk isn't helping.
Bottom Line: I do not like sour beers. I would not drink them there or here. I would not drink them in a mug. I would not pair them with a bug.
