First sip is a little jarring. It definitely has the peanuts, and they're mixed with other nuts, and the sweet malt is adding something to the whole effect, but the sensations as it's going down aren't particularly pleasant. It's like this beer is trying to fight the whole way down. The picture on the can shows a mad cow attacking a peanut, and I feel like that mad cow is really attacking me. I take a second sip, and the taste isn't nearly as off-putting as the first one was. Instead, it's syrupy sweet from all the milk sugars, and that added to the peanut butter to kind of make a peanut butter milkshake?
Tip-in is peanut butter, chocolate, toffee, and just a hint of carbonation. The middle is sweet syrup with the peanuts combined with caramel and a bit of coffee; it's smooth but just too sweet. The finish is a wave of bitterness with coffee and dark chocolate trying to overtake the peanuts, but the peanuts rule the trail off.
Bottom Line: I thought the second go for this style would really bump it up a lot, but I find that this is a memorable beer, but it's just not a great one.
