I'm only going to sip this. I'm not a hard liquor drinker, so I'm not going to attempt to gulp it. Does this make me less of a man? I hope not. I drink my beer like a man, and I don't need your validation, person on the internet.
So, my first sip is a good one, but it's more complex than I expected... to the point that I can't describe it on first sip. So, I'm going in for a second sip (don't judge me). Tip-in is a kind of cinnamon burn. It's a cinnamon sugar, though, so there is a sweet, buttery taste around the outskirts where the liquid drops off the tongue. From there, the drink hits a warmth that I recall from the very few times I've had hard adult beverage. Then, the crust flakes off and down the throat. The beverage is cold, but the apple pie warmth flows down the throat, warming everything on the way.
A few sips down, the taste is grating on me a bit. The sweet flavor is a bit too much, and it is not helped when the alcohol burn hits. Yup, it's not a warm apple pie anymore - it's just alcohol. I suspect the ice on top was diluting it enough to improve the taste, and I might opt to add water to the next glass I try.
This isn't as good as a good beer, but this might be a good standby for when I have no beer in the house.
