Instead, this one features Eric Bana as a robber with a fantastically hot sister played by Olivia Wilde. Olivia and her on screen love, played by Charlie Hunnam (you may remember him as Jax from Sons of Anarchy) really take up more screen time than Eric. I've never been overly impressed with Eric's American accent, and its on full display here, so I guess less screen time is probably better..
Sissy Spacek and Treat Williams round out the cast. Sissy does an admirable job, but Treat isn't given enough of a character to do anything with. When your character is written with a single dimension, it's hard to add one. However, it's nice to see relatively good actors doing some acting after the debacle that was A Common Man.
The storyline of a brother and sister looking to escape the law is pretty straight forward. They separate early, and the hot chick is - not too strangely - tasked with finding a guy who she can bend to her whim. Who'd have thought, right? So, she happens upon Jax (sorry, Jay) who is freshly released from prison and who recently concussed a former cohort. She uses sexiness to get a ride and eventually sex followed by a limitless love that will stand the test of time and space. After all, they've known each other for two days.
Anyway, they eventually make it to Jax's parents' house. Damnit! Jay! I keep mixing up his name because he is the same character. It's a good character, and I enjoy watching it, but it is the exact same character. He at one time is annoyed and points at some random guy with the exclamation, "I will put you in a coma!" Yup, that's our man Jax.
So, they get to the house where Eric is already waiting and terrorizing Sissy and Kris. They sit down to a nice dinner and live happily ever after. There may be some things in there that I left out. What is highlighted is the real story of the movie: family dysfunction. Eric and Olivia have a horrible past with their father that we hear about, Jax doesn't get along with Kris, the sheriff is constantly fighting with his daughter, we come across a guy who beats his step daughter, and this is all happening on Thanksgiving.
The acting was pretty good.
The storyline was fairly weak.
The dialogue was pretty good.
The cinematography was pretty good.
The action was limited, but good.
Bottom Line: All in all, this was not a terrible movie. I wouldn't see it in the theater, but it is okay for a lazy Saturday afternoon.
