The color is definitely very dark, but it is not the black of a Stout that I'm used to. In fact, this doesn't seem to have the texture of a Stout that I'm used to. This has more of a coloring and texture of a wee heavy or a Belgian ale. I'll call the color deep raspberry caramel. The head is sufficient and filled with medium to small bubbles that boil away to one lily pad and a ring. The smell is certainly very good. It's a sweet caramel and spices with notable grains coming forward. Is that ... coffee? No. It would be on the can, if this had coffee. That's probably just roasted oats or something.First sip is damn coffee. It's not the only flavor, but it's already too much. I don't understand how hard it is for breweries to put on the label whether or not something has the flavor of coffee. Is it really that much to ask for? I go to the grocery store and see items labeled as gluten-free that would never have gluten in them in the first place, but beer that doesn't normally have coffee in it - I can't get a label.
Tip-in is mild carbonation with coffee staining my tongue; are there other flavors? I have no idea. I was going to try to dissect more, but I'm telling you this is just nothing but coffee, and I hate every second of it, so I'm stopping. I don't like this at all.
Bottom Line: Unlike the label, I was clear in my review. I don't like this at all.
